Set in Toronto in the early 1980s, it follows the CEO of a small television station who discovers a broadcast signal featuring extreme violence and torture. Layers of deception unfold as he uncovers the signal's source and Videodrome’s opening sequence: the title flickering to life then fading into static, the logos for the channel protagonist Max Renn works for in a television screen. Already we are not really in a fictional, realistic narrative, but in a kind of media. David Cronenberg had to remove some shots of a sexual nature and shorten other, violent scenes in order to secure an R rating. Most notably, Max and Nicki's sex scene originally lasted much longer and included Max piercing Nicki's ear multiple times; the scene originally ended with Max fantasizing that the two are having sex on the Videodrome set. The second clip is called Transmissions From Videodrome which are the sequences shot for the “snuff” show known as Vidoedrome in their entirety. Lasting over 7-minutes a commentary is your only audio option provided by Mark Irwin and Michael Lennick yet again, talking about urban legends and actually shooting the sequences (and Lennick Videodrome is a snuff channel, an endless sequence of torture and mutilations without any narrative construction.
